>>He could defuse most of it with a simple, heartfelt statement. That he has not done so is part of the tragedy IMO, and why I was worried about him the other day.

That announcement came after my post. It was a step in the right direction, but still tightly controlled. IMO he will have to be open and clearly remorseful in a situation he can't control, like a talk show where he is the guest. Until something like that happens I take all this as spin control.

It's interesting that he is so different from one of the wunderkinds of womens' golf, Michelle Wie. There was an article in Sports Illustrated a couple of weeks ago about her. What a delightful young woman! She goes to Stanford and has many friends, many of whom don't even know she makes a million dollars a year as a professional golfer. Or couldn't care less. Her dorm room is like that of any other popular undergrad, people in and out all day. One of her friends said it's a little weird watching her on TV. (I went to high school with Joan Benoit and know the feeling). She says firmly that she will get her degree. She comes from a family of scholars and says she doesn't want to be the one without a degree. For some reason I had a negative image of her before this article. That sure changed.

The pictures, which only emphasize her average college student creds, are not in the web link.
