Greetings all.

I'm having an odd problem with my reporting, and I'm hoping that someone can give me a clue as to what's going on. The report preview's fine, and it prints using file based printer drivers like CutePDF and Office Document Image Writer fine, but when sent to the printer I'm getting lines where the test gets skewed. Some times it's just the descenders, and other times it's skewing along the middle of the line. For example I have one line in the document where the line starts fine, the bottom half of the line gets offset further and further to the right as you go across. Then suddenly, over the last word or two, the offset gets less and less until by the end of the line it's actually offset to the left.

I'm printing in a Terminal server environment, and to make matters harder to sort out, it seems like my printer is the only printer that doesn't show the problem. If I or one of our technical guys print to my printer it all comes out fine, but if I print to a user's printer, or to a printer in the office (I work from home) it comes out skewed. The report has no printer settings saved in it, and knows nothing about my printer. In fact the default printer on the server I created the report on is CutePDF.

I wound up creating a new report with just a memo field and it showed the problem. It seems to only occur after printing a line or two of the memo, so the problem doesn't seem to be noticeable on reports without memo fields, or where they are fairly short, which is something at least. I've been using 20 records of randomly generated text, but I combed through that and there is nothing in there other than upper and lower case letters, comma's full stops, spaces and carriage return and linefeed sets.

I then tried potting multiple copies of the memo field in the detail band so I could try different things with each field and noticed that not only did nothing I tried help, but the distortion is the same on exactly the same each time that the same text was printer.

Short term it seems to be consistent. On Friday I had one of our guys print and check the report twice and both copies had the same distortion, but when I had more copies printed today that seem to be nearly perfect, but supposedly nothing has changed from then to now.

I'm running Visual FoxPro Service Pack 2 with the latest Hot Fixes, a couple of different versions of Terminal Server (2004 & 2007 enterprise server) and various printers. I had the tech guys check the printer drivers in the office and they are up to date.

Does anyone have any clue as to what could possibly be casing the problem, and more importantly, what I con do to fix it?

Ian Simcock.
