I wouldn't recommend using them. I think they're most valuable as a learning tool for people who aren't very familiar with OOP.

I wouldn't sweat that. C++ is pretty much the lowest level language commonly in use these days. Don't forget that VFP (and pretty much all MS apps) is written in C++.
