You've got great skills, especially with SQL Server and ASP.NET, but you may have to tele-commute, or move out of the Austin area. The majority of the jobs, unfortunately, are in the bigger cities, like Dallas, Houston, that is, in Texas. Austin used to have a lot of job openings for VFP developers, but that has dried up. I think most were government type jobs.

We visited in Austin April of 2008 with my cousin and some other relatives. We love that area, but there just aren't enough jobs there, especially now, to support the people who need jobs. I wish it were different, but that is how it is now. Dallas seems to be the better choice of all cities in Texas. I think I sent you my spreadsheet in which I did a job opportunities analysis of the southwestern United States beginning in Lousiana heading eastward. It is a bit dated since it was put together this past October.

Networking among fellow developers is, of course, important.

>Cecil,

>>There may be no corproate loyalty when the chips are down, but there is hope. It is true that jobs are getting more and more scarce, but try the following web site: http://www.indeed.com

>One of the 8 managers I had during the 11 years, that says something too lol, who got laid off earlier this year also pointed me at that site, I hadn't gotten there yet but definately will.

>>Were you doing strictly Visual FoxPro or other coding there?

>I was doing mostly SQL Server level coding and talking to it from ASP.Net/C# and VFP. But I've only met one computer language that I hated... and that was COBOL. And except for teh oddball languages like Prolog they are all the same, just syntax differences.
