I agree with you up to a point. MS always has some idea of what they see as the future. They'll invest in things that meet their current view even if they don't make money. Things that don't meet that view won't get as much attention. Of course, their view can change very quickly.

How much money does Jet make? Nobody buys Jet, but it's obviously vital for Access and important for VB. If the new version of SQL Server makes it unnecessary, MS will kill it. My argument is that MS has no other product that is comparable to Access. SQL Server 7.0 won't change that. I can see the argument that SQL 7.0 is the beginning of the end of Jet, but I don't see how it applies to Access.
