Hi there. And thanks for the quick response. It's not a free table but this thing is so messed up I don't know. There's about 6 projects in the directory and none of them has code that actually matches the exe that they have. It's a fox3 app, that much I know. I'll check the developer's guide and see if I can figure out something about that first byte. That's a really good suggestion. And it's quite possible that one of the other programs is monkeying with it. Thanks!!!

>Is it a free table? What flavor of FoxPro? The status of the CDX is stored in one of the first byte of the dbf. I can't put my hands on code right now that shows what each bit in there indicates. It's quite possible one of the other programs is altering that byte and thus confusing FoxPro. Look at that byte either with a hex file viewer or fread it with some FoxPro code for a good file and the damaged file to see the difference.
