Developers, Developers, Developers.
Both Mono and Moonlight receive engineering help and technology licenses (and in the case of Moonlight distributable licenses for codecs) from MS. Yes, this serves MS because of the reasons pointed to in the article: every line of code written in .Net, whether on Windows, Linux, or OSX (the MonoTouch project creates apple app-store applications written in .Net), benefits MS by promoting their development platform. But it also benefits the developers. I see that as a win-win.

>This is the first time I've seen a statement from MS that actually explains how they play the game. I think it's honest and very straight forward. Of course I'm sure many will see it in a negative light - I don't. I think the article is intended to be a put down for those that use Mono, MoonLight, etc.. And I'm sure the Linux guys will say "see MS is evil". I see it as making good business sense. It doesn't mean I'm going to follow MS - just that I like the honest approach.
