Hi Guy,

Yes, I am installing on a different machine. It appears to have SQL Server 2005 and SQL Server Management Studio Express already installed but used for SBS Monitoring. This must be an internal thing as it installed by default. I would like to have SQL Server Standard 2008 for my use and be able to distinguish it for my needs and seperate from the developer version on my desktop. What type of names are appropriate for an instance name?
Tim

>I assume you're installing on a machine other than your desktop. SQL Server will take on the machine name as it's first/default instance name. That will be enough to distinguish between the two. If you install a second instance of SQL Server on a machine that already has SQL Server, you'll be prompted to name the second instance anything you want.

I would like to make sure I can access either of the SQL Server installs from my desktop. What do I need to consider during the install on the SBS server in order to distinguish it as a different installation and instance?
