I am now presented with a screen with the services listed and I think asking for an account name and password for each service. There is a button that says "Use the same account for all SQL server services" but there is also a note at the top suggesting Microsoft recommends that you use a sperate account for each SQL Server service.

Go ahead and use the same account for all. you should have a dropdown list where you can pick Network_Service account - that should work fine (no password is required).

>>>Yes, I am installing on a different machine. It appears to have SQL Server 2005 and SQL Server Management Studio Express already installed but used for SBS Monitoring. This must be an internal thing as it installed by default. I would like to have SQL Server Standard 2008 for my use and be able to distinguish it for my needs and seperate from the developer version on my desktop. What type of names are appropriate for an instance name?

>>You have an SBSMonitoring instance on the SBS server - that is used for generating server reports. Normally, you leave that one strictly alone.
>>
>>Normally I name specific instances of SQL Server on a machine based on the SQL Server version. On my SBS2003 server, I have the SBSMonitoring instance along with an SQL2005 and an SQL2008 instance (we don't start the service for the SQL2005 instance anymore). If I had multiple instances of the same version of SQL Server on a server, I'd have to be more discriminating in the naming of the instance.
>>
>>When you connect to a SQL server, your connection includes the physical server name or the IP address AND the instance name if any. You can have the same instance name on multiple servers w/o problem since the server name/IP will differentiate them.

If you install a second instance of SQL Server on a machine that already has SQL Server, you'll be prompted to name the second instance anything you want.

I would like to make sure I can access either of the SQL Server installs from my desktop. What do I need to consider during the install on the SBS server in order to distinguish it as a different installation and instance?
