Too funny. I saw your message but clicked reply and found you changed it.

It is running however. Trying to figure out the Windows Firewall stuff to see if that is a factor.
Thanks
Tim

>>Hi Guy,

Also under the category of SQL Native Client 10.0 Configuration - Client Protocols the TCP/IP and Named pipes are both enabled. They were already enabled after install so I didn't stop or restart the SQL Server.

>>Windows Firewall, well I have looked at this sort of. I am running Windows 7 on my desktop and the Windows Firewall lets you add exceptions which are programs and not ports that I could find. I am not sure how to configure this to open that port. I am tempted to just turn off the Windows Firewall all together.

>>>Hi Tim,
>>>
>>>If I remember right, in SQL Server 2008, all network protocols are off by default. I suppose this is done as an added security measure. You turn on only what you want. I'm not at my normal machine so I cannot check this exactly. But I believe there was an additional applet installed that should be available on your menu (where SQL Server is installed) that lets you manage the protocols and network connections. Maybe 'Protocol Manager' or something like that??
>>>
>>>The only other thing I can think of is maybe windows firewall is blocking the port. 1433 is the default SQL Server port.

I also have SQL2008 developer edition installed on my desktop machine. I am unable to connect SSMS from my workstation to the instance of SQL2008 on my SBS server. I am logged in and running SSMS but can't connect with any of the following:
