What I'd want is a tricorder. Yep, trekkie style tricorder that I could carry in my pocket. It need not detect the presence of living beings behind a rock wall, nor it need diagnose anything. It need only analyze the chemical composition of what I point it to. So when I'm in a grocery, and point it at a sausage, it would tell me whether there are any known poisons, genetically modified stuff, engineered fats etc, and how much water was added. Same for anything else that I may consider buying. That would revolutionize the market, by rewarding the few honest sellers.
