>>>Would someone who understands college football better than I please explain why Kelly didn't coach Bearcats in Sugar Bowl. I certainly get taking the ND job, but why leave before the culmination of the season. He could have left for Southbend today. Why jump ship before that - for that matter why would all this be announced before the end of the bowl games. Seems to be in no one's best interest (except perhaps Tebow's stats )

>>Kevin and I were discussing exactly that in another thread. Now there are three of us who agree completely.

>I guess it has something to do with recruiting obligations. Evidently the period of time between Dec 15 and Jan 1 requires the full-time attention of the head coach??? I don't think it says much about the character of Kelly or ND that they would allow/encourage this guy who created Cincy as a serious program to bail on the team on the eve of most important game in school history. And as I say that as someone who doesn't give a damn about the Bearcats I can imagine there are folks who feel a LOT stronger about that than I do.

>( just re-watched some of the Sugar Bowl and it hit me that if Tebow falls to the second round don't be at all surprised if Holmgren grabs him for the Browns. )

It will be very interesting to see what happens with him. I know I have dissed him, but only in the sense that I don't see him as an NFL quarterback. But the guy is a gamer. I can see him as a successful tight end. Or maybe an H back, as suggested by Jimmy Johnson.

Actually his passing looked very good against Cincinnati, as good as I have seen him throw. There was one where he was being pursued, falling to his left, and made a perfect throw to the right corner of the end zone. That was pretty.

The Big 10 is doing pretty well. Michigan State plays tonight and Iowa will play on Tuesday or Wednesday night (for some unknown reason). The five teams who have played already are 3-2, with both losses, by Minnesota and Northwestern, very close. It looked like NU was going to win their first bowl game since 1949. But it's never a good sign when your QB throws the ball 78 times <g>. (Not making that up).
