Most certainly the winters change here over decades. Much of the past 20 years general warming and shortening of winter in our area has been assigned to the El Nino off the Chilean coast. But more recently it has been re-assigned by lunk heads such as your Tennesean buddy, Al Gore. :)) who probably saw a way to make a buck and lit a fire under it.
