This is done all the time. Usually it is based on the visibility of any high ticket or unbagged items in the cart. They check my receipts when I go through the door all the time if I have anything not in a bag or larger than usual or electronic stuff. I find it hard to suggest that this is anything other than the whim of the door person. I don't think I look like an immigrant...but maybe I do :o)
