John, I assume from this that you've already pulled down the latest beta for R2...and you've looked at what's under the hood with PowerPivot....with more data being handled/munged in the client than even Fox could ever do...and you're not moved by any of this?It doesn't matter whether I'm moved or not: it matters whether this is a realistic scenario in the real world. For your customers, it may be, and that is cool. Others may have customers with a mix of old SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle, whatever.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us."
-- Shakespeare: Coriolanus, Act 1, scene 1
