gun-related crime is right up there with the U.S. (see the graph in my link to Tracy.....)Those "Gun Facts" people are being a bit naughty. ;-) Swiss figures for "Intentional firearm deaths" include quite a high firearm suicide rate- not because firearms cause suicides but because there's an available firearm in practically every home. If you look at "murder" figures, which is the more useful stat, it's a different story:
http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/cri_mur_wit_fir_percap-crime-murders-firearms-per-capita . Switzerland has three times the rate of New Zealand which also has fairly liberal gun laws, but less than a quarter of the US rate.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us."
-- Shakespeare: Coriolanus, Act 1, scene 1
