Title:
Problem with Terminal Server 2008 Easy Print
Just something for the community. Any ideas, please let me know.
We host multiple clients on our terminal server. Instead of managing printers manually, we have utilized a third party application to automatically handle this for us. Triceterat Screwdrivers has worked very well and I can highly recommend. However, at 1400.00 / server + 400.00 first year support, it is somewhat difficult to justify.
So, imagine our excitement when I discovered that Windows Server 2008 has a new utility, Easy Print, which does the same thing (though perhaps different method) - and is included for no additional charge!
We built another terminal server, loaded Windows Server 2008 and Easy Print does work - mostly. There are some issues with XP that require a hotfix to be installed on the client and on the server. But for us, the real problem is that it does not support one of our industry-standard forms. The problem is when printing a 8.5 x 12' form, the dreaded 'Detail Band Too Large' is returned.
Now, we are familiar with this message and the solution (defining a form and referencing in the printer properties). This is not a problem from any client, with any OS, regardless of printer - only with Easy Print.
The interesting thing is that some clients are printing other 'non-standard' documents, such as shipping labels, without incident. So, I'm not sure where the problem lies - not through lack of testing though. At this point, MS Support has not come up with anything either, though I am awaiting the inevitable response of 'known incident' or 'limitation' (sigh).
