Only partially correct. Engineering saw it as an incremental update to Vista. Marketing wanted something that said, "It's not Vista".

IF VERSION() = 5 OR VERSION() = 6

the software will still run under Windows 7. If they changed the version to 7.0, the code above would have broken.
