That man never said what you talked about. He just said "don't use OS version checks at your applications for compatibility issues". I'm not a OS expert but I think so they just cutted it's thorns... :)

IF VERSION() = 5 OR VERSION() = 6

the software will still run under Windows 7. If they changed the version to 7.0, the code above would have broken.
