I wouldn't equate earthquake selection with natural selection - maybe a little self-serving, living in an area that has historically been hit with 9.0-class earthquakes.

Setting up roadblocks looks stupid, but it's really a result of (mass) hysteria due to desperation.

I suspect we may not hear much more reported about this. This might end up one of the things that news media self-censor, like details of suicides.
