If I were going to go to a client site and do some work there, assuming an internet connection I could connect to my server and check out any project components I needed. If I knew beforehand that I would not have a connection, then I would check out the components to my laptop beforehand and check back in when I got back to the office.

Theoretically you can use the web component of VSS2005 to handle web based check-in/out. I'm not sure how well that works. I tried to implement it a couple of months ago and failed miserably, but it is supposed to work.

If you have VPN capability to your network you can hit VSS that way, but you need a good fast connection and hopefully a fairly small project as VSS seems to be really clow over limited bandwidth.
