If I create a new class "fee" based on, say, MS ListView6, then "ADD CLASS fee OF lib1 TO lib2" will fail with the message "Object class is invalid for this container".

Bob,
This is less pain. Use VCX1 as a table, find class entry (browse for !empty(ole2)), scatter memvar memo, insert into VCX2.vcx from memvar, close all.
