>The Toyota recall for sticky gas pedals has been striking me as fishy for a while. Now Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood is recommending that people who own these vehicles not drive them at all until taking them to a Toyota dealership for service.

>Is this an unwarranted conspiracy theory on my part? It just seems awfully convenient for the domestic automakers with their business in the toilet and Toyota being the #1 manufacturer. They wouldn't be ginning this story up behind the scenes, would they?
Two months ago I was surfing the craigslist and dealer websites, looking for a car (got it eventually, a 6 year old Matrix XRS) and was asked on some website to answer a poll. First six or ten pages were composed of questions like "did you stop beating your wife", all geared towards "confess that you'll never buy a Honda or Toyota again, and you'll buy American, or else feel like a complete idiot". Around page ten I alteffoured the window.
And the campaign is too well orchestrated. These days they cook that up more than they cooked up Yemen the previous few weeks. Though I don't see why - these Toyotas are made in the US and Canada.
