I can honestly say I never wrote on a desk. Was no stranger to the assistant principal's office, though, usually for being a smartass. (What a shock, huh? ;-) ) Paddling had not been forbidden at that point and you knew exactly what you were going to get -- one very hard whack with a thick paddle he kept in a corner behind his desk. Only one but he always got his money's worth. He made you lean forward against the desk, then took his sweet time winding up. Yes, it hurt. He seemed to get a lot of enjoyment from it .... hmmm. The girls said it was the exact same routine with them.
