>Hi, I've successfully restored the DevDays98 RDS sample and got it to work with SQL Server(6.5) on a BackOffice SBS server and IE4 on the client side. I even got it to work on a VFP table that had been "upsized" to SQL Server. However, if I change the System DSN to point to a VFP free table directory (ODBC), I get a series of OLE "E_Fail" messages. Before I spend anymore time on RDS, can someone give me a quick guide on how to run a VFP Form under IE4 that will have access to a VFP table on the server. I feel I'm using the wrong approach but without guidance from people who have "been there and done that" I think I'm wasting my time.
I was working with RDS a while back and it was very, very spotty
regardless of whether I was going against SQL or VFP. IT worked well with
small data sets but always failed with even 50 or so records.
Worse yet, error handling doesn't work. The E_FAIL message doesn't
fire a Fox Error (doesn't fire one in VB either for that matter),
although it does in IE where of course you can't really trap for it.
This is technology that's definitely not ready for real work yet.
