There was something really painful about the Who at half-time. Daltry ... oh my god. It was like watching Elizabeth Taylor recreate scenes from Butterfield 8 or Cleopatra. I was as sad as I could be for someone worth a kazillion dollars.
I get that there was probably come kind of CBS deal - CSI etc uses a lot of Who stuff for themes, but the problem was when those riffs came on in the medley it made you remember that these guys used to rock and did some very cool stuff - and that they ain't doin' it anymore. I actually found it painful to watch and damn near impossible to listen to.
Jagger and the Stones can still do it. Bruce will do it forever. Stephane Grapelli and Miles did it to the end. But some people should have enough self-awareness to know when it's time to let it go. I want to remember the guys at Day on the Green, the Tommy original cast album, the amazing band that gave some of the best shows of the last 50 years.
What happened yesterday was like asking Len Dawson to take some snaps in the second half instead of Manning or Brees.
