>>By contrast, I thought the first major conference after the release of 5.0 (which, I believe, was also in Arizona the following October, when we all froze our butts off) was a much better conference and more hands-on. Sure, part of that could be attributed to the fact that OO had been out for a little while with Fox, but I think having a MUCH better 5.0 tool made the difference. Speakers were, for lack of a better phrase, "at one" with the product during their presentations.

>I think the biggest issue with the first conference was that VFP was barand new to the speakers as well and a lot of us were not really sure which way we would eventually go with certain things. Besides VFP 3 was a bit of a dog. It was beautiful as a version 1 of a brand new technology but it wasn't really ready for the real world of project development.

And, IIRC, Microsoft sent us a new beta not very long before DevCon and told us that was what we needed to use for our sessions. (This was back in the days before we were bringing our own computers to present with.) I'm pretty sure I had notes to myself about what not to click.
