That's why I don't participate in a lot of chatter threads anymore. Or on-line discussions in general. There's always someone that will come back at you and change what you said into something else. And because that person is well-known in a given community the friends will get back at you to support that person. Even if the replies are insane.
We also see that a lot in real-life. A title will always prevail over common sense. You're at a party somewhere and you discuss stuff. If there is a doctor in the place his/here words will have more power than the words of someone that didn't go to college. That's just the way it is and no real way to fight this.
