Nor am I but car crime is often a way to catch all sort of other offenses.
Have to say that constant bleeping would drive me mad. I guess you can turn it off though. Give it a few more years and it won't be a person in the car anyway.
I would think Johns people must be hoping to sell that stuff more widely to offset the development costs.
