Why do you hate to tell me this? Because I might be skeptical about the amount of influence you have over publishing houses? ;-)
As far as what either form "should" cost, I suspect you are looking at it from an entirely different perspective than they are. You are making a value judgment. I'm sure they are much more guided by marketing and profitability considerations. Hated to say it, because you might get mad at me for thinking it was OK raising prices. :)
My influence was small, very small - but it was a voice they considered.
They were already looking at it from a profit perspective...and in some cases, weren't aware of all the instances of piracy I provided them. But they WERE looking for a few value judgments that I provided.
