>>>I find it interesting that the left has hijacked the term "progressive." That was a smart move :o) The right on the other hand is labeled all sorts of things. Since most folks fall somewhere in between the two parties (agree with a little there and a little here, etc), what is the current term for that? :o) Here it is not Independent because there actually is a political party labeled "Independent" so if you register as an Independent, you are joining a political party. The only true independent voter registration here is "non-affiliated."

>>Don't you think the right has usually hijacked patriotism, the flag, law and order, defense etc. the list could go on.

>No, that was the left's media snowing - they managed to insinuate that. Only a couple of extreme righters suggested that and the left and media blew took it an ran with it. Smart thinking on their part :o) If you look at the crazy things the left and right say sometimes, it is only a couple of them and it makes it appear like it belongs to the entire party and that is not the case. Of course, those media snippets get passed around the world so that is what people see and hear and not the general (not sensationalized) comments and discussions.

This is not finger pointing, just an observation -- I don't think there is any question the Republican Party has tried to present itself as the party of flag, law and order, and defense, and Democrats as weak in those areas. I would be surprised if you could find a Republican politician who would disagree with that statement. They conduct every Presidential campaign on those grounds. And who can blame them? It was worked pretty well for them.
