Scope is always local, and should be declared as such, with the exception of ThisApp. VFP can be pretty literate, not that I claim to have read Knuth's work. (I did read Coders at Work, but haven't finished the chapter on Knuth.)

We may still disagree about Hungarian notation. Or maybe I really am living in the past ;-) I know they have helped me at times. In .NET, sure, usually you are referencing class properties so not much need.

Funny that you mention "Coders At Work." On the train commute to work I generally carry two books in my backpack, one fiction and one nonfiction. The current non is CAW. Great stuff. I consider myself a very good coder but not great, so it's fascinating to hear the perspective of those who really have left footprints.
