>>>I disagree with you. Underneath the result is a huge amount of new science knowledge that may be used in many peaceful ways, including super high speed communication.

>In an ideal world of bland non-agressive nations that would be nice. I would be in favor of that perfect peaceful world of passive nations. But it is to be noted that throughout history, for the most part, invention has been driven by the need to win a war. If you think the world is a peaceful place because the cold war is over, think again. China is rising. They a building aircraft carriers and other controlling naval vessels. I might also add that their spies have provided much of the technology plans for that navy by stealing the methods from the United States and that includes the very latest catapult design for the U.S. carriers. If you want the USA to be peaceful then work hard to have all the nations of the world be peaceful too. I won't argue this case anymore as 'peaceniks' tend to only critisize their own country without consideration of the rest of the world. Fix the rest of the world and peace will be yours.

My point is - we can blow any aggressor off the plant with a push of a button from here. No need to spend trillions on technology that's 30 years ahead of anyone else breathing now.
