>>>This is astounding.

>>Maybe it is just the way my mind works, but if I were pretty close to actually being able to do something with this kind of technology I'd announce I was cancelling it, it was a complete failure and furgettaboutit.

>>Always nice to have something in your pocket. I do believe that if somebody started shooting off missles right now they might be surprised. Maybe this is getting added to the surprise party.

>>I don't think Obama thinks that way but Gates used to be DCI and he does.

>I keep reading that Robert Gates will move on soon. Not unusual, but I hope he doesn't. I like it that Obama re-upped him in the first place instead of appointing a Democrat. It doesn't seem to be doing much good but I think he genuinely does want bipartisanship.

>Evan Bayh's announcement yesterday took me by surprise. He seems like a steady guy. He basically said the Senate is broken and he doesn't want to be part of it any more.

>I finished "Game Change." If anything it increased my admiration of Obama, even if some of the warts came out. He is quoted dropping some F bombs during the stress of the campaign. A really good read. It made me view all the candidates in a slightly different way.

>The one who surprised me most: Bill Clinton. Probably my favorite scene in the book is at the end, when Obama persuades Hillary to take the Sec of State slot. She didn't want it and he finally convinced her to take it. After the vicious campaign they had gained respect for each other. She brought up the Bill issue, basically saying he's a loose cannon and I can't control him. I think she is doing a good job. And I say that not liking her at all before.

I think HRC is a serious person and is particularly suited for S of S which is a good policy wonkish job and needs somebody tough. Gates is an interesting guy. I was very glad Obama retained him. I knew somebody who knew him when he was DCI who spoke really highly of him.

Attorney General just seems to be post nobody gets right. ( well, maybe RFK ) I'd love to see Obama realize Holder was a bad pick. You want real bipartizanship - Ted Olson.

Though a good deal is too strange to be believed, nothing is too strange to have happened.
- Thomas Hardy

Half the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important. They don't mean to do harm-- but the harm does not interest them. Or they do not see it, or they justify it because they are absorbed in the endless struggle to think well of themselves.

-- T. S. Eliot
Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for lunch.
Liberty is a well-armed sheep contesting the vote.
- Ben Franklin

Pardon him, Theodotus. He is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature.
