My picky response on all this has to do with the line "does not work". I think that it should be considered to have worked if, after doing a MD to create a folder, you can successfully do a CD to that same folder.

There have been a few references here to nice examples where the case is preserved -- but there is no need for that to happen, it's just a matter of providing a nicety for the user.
