>>>Hi,
>>>
>>>I have 2 Gmail accounts which I use with my Outlook 2003, no problem. These accounts are set in my Outlook as POP account with SMTP outgoing server (pop.gmail.com and smtp.gmail.com).
>>>
>>>I created a new Gmail account a couple of weeks ago. I just tried to add this account to my Outlook but no matter what I do it doesn't work. I went to Gmail and saw the help on setting the account. The help suggest to set up IMAP account, which I did but still it does not work.
>>>
>>>Should I be still trying to use POP (pop.gmail.com) and SMTP (smtp.gmail.com) in my Outlook or imap.gmail.com?
>>>
>>>TIA.
>>>
>>>UPDATE. I was able to create an IMAP account in my Outlook and messages sent to Gmail account do go to Outlook. The only thing is that Outlook created a box called "imap.gmail.com" and the messages go there instead of Inbox. Is it possible to change the setting that the messages sent to the IMAP account would go to Inbox?
>>
>>I'm thinking for your purposes POP is probably simpler.
>>
>>What do you mean by, "does not work"? First, check that you can receive mail sent to the new account. If you can't, check for typos in server names, passwords etc. Use your other 2 successful accounts as templates to check your non-functioning one.
>>
>>If you can receive mail but can't send, it might be that your ISP requires that you use their SMTP "smart host" for outgoing mail on the default port 25. If that's the case and you'd still rather use GMail's SMTP server, chances are you have to set the outgoing SMTP service for that account to use a different (non-25) port. Again, if you have other accounts successfully using GMail's SMTP for outgoing mail, check their detailed setup for port settings or anything else different or unusual.

>Just a follow up. I just deleted the IMAP account in my Outlook that I created last night and then created POP account (exactly the same way I did yesterday). And the POP account works now. What I mean by works is that the Test in Outlook is able to send and receive email by connecting to the Gmail server. Another interesting thing is that after I deleted the IMAP account, the IMAP folders in my Outlook are gone. Which is good. But I was surprised that Outlook didn't prompt me with a question if it is ok to delete the folders with the account.

>Thank you for your help.

The folders are probably still there - but they're on the the gmail server.
Are you connected to the internet the same way you were yesterday? Sometimes ISP's will prevent you from using a different outgoing mail server than their own (supposedly to reduce spam)

EDIT: Might want to read this too...
