But for bratkartoffeln you need nothing then a pan, potatos, onions and some ham. You might use salt and caraway if at hand but this is not a must. Quick food. We do it normaly from spare cooked potatos from the day before, but it works with unboiled potatos as well.
It would need an fried egg or some sausage to make it perfect.

Gratin dauphinois? They have a tradition of heavy food there in france.
