At a minimum, you'll need the vendor-supplied device driver to make the parallel port visibile as a drive, and if the device is not PnP, or the parallel port does not support the necessary bi-directional transfer modes (there are at least 4 parallel port operating modes, only two of which can fully support PnP) you'll probably have to install the drivers either via the Add new hardware Wizard, or if no protected mode drivers exist, by adding statements to the CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files.
I'd check with the vendor to make sure you have the necessary drivers, and that the hardware is supported under the operating system version you're running.
