>>>>Look - beer isn't legal for kids under 18 either. Neither is voting or driving a car. You're suggestion of criminals still having a revenue stream after pot is legal makes no sense at all.
>>>>And again you've brought murder into the argument. You want to reduce murder??? Then legalize pot so the deadly drug cartels don't end up with all the money and feel the need to use violence to protect their illegal business!!
>>>
>>>Your argument is that if pot is legal, there won't be a market for illegal drugs. That's BS. There will still be a market for pot from the underground - teenagers. Then there are still the other drugs that will be out there. There is a way to stop the drugs coming into the US, but we haven't had a president who is willing to defoliate a few countries - yet.
>>
>>Did it work in the 1920's when they outlawed booze? No. Is there still a market for illegal booze? I'm sure there are some illegal moonshiners in KY backwoods - but the mafia sure as heck doesn't control it anymore now do they? I'm also sure there is a market for underage drinking but I don't think making booze legal vs illegal has had any effect on that.
>>Yes there are other illegal drugs - and perhaps they all should be legalized. In case you're unaware Mexico recently legalized small amounts of all drugs in an attempt to subdue the massive number of violent murders in that country by the drug cartels. It's a step in the right direction but until governments make them legal and start regulating them the problem will persist.
>>If you think a president is going to obliterate a whole country to attempt to stem the drug trade you're mistaken. By the way the last several presidents we've had have admitted to using pot at one time or another.
>>Look - people are going to do the drugs - period. If you attempt to defoliate a whole country to get rid of some of the drugs you're only going to make matters worse. The cost of the drugs will go up - the bad guys will end up with even more money - the stakes will be higher and thus more violence.
>>Everyone knows the war on drugs is a lost cause John - that is everyone except the people who's jobs depend on them being illegal that is.

>Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but moonshiners still exist in MANY states of this country...not just "backwoods Kentucky" :o)

Perhaps there are - but these guys aren't working with the mafia anymore either so they really don't pose a threat.
According to John Harvey's logic most of their customers should be underage drinkers - any idea on the demographics of their customer base?
