>>>OK, I got it, go to a wedding and line them all up, demanding to see their faces in profile, to see if it's racial or not. Arrest only those who object. Do it equal opportunity - from the shantytowns to the posh weddings in larger hotels, so nobody feels left out.

>>>I actually agree with you: he goes where the criminals are and acts. That is, he goes where the poorer criminals who can't pay larger caliber lawyers are and acts like he owns them, thus venting his frustration that he can never get to the richer criminals.

>Seeing what Victor has posted, and having some mental image of that kind of guys, the very idea of raiding a wedding is enough for me to seriously dislike the guy, point or no point. And my question is whether he'd go against all kinds of crime with the same fervor, or would he stick with his preferences, harassing the poor, the not exactly white, and generally those who fit his prejudice (aka profile), while avoiding the rich, the corporate thugs, the clergy etc in a wide arc.

If the guy is sheriff then obviously he should go after criminals. The real issue here I think is what criminals he's going after and how he's using the departments resources. He'll send 100's of cops to harass mexican's in poor neighborhoods, have his thug deputy's park out in front of the homes and follow and harass people who oppose him - and even more troubling is that fact he indicts political opponents. Or how about bout his swat operation where they ended up burning down a guy's house and killing his dog -- and ended up arresting the guy...for a misdemeanor!
Meanwhile - there are 39,000 unserved felony warrants in Maricopa County - which means his county has the largest backlog of felony warrants in the nation!
In another one of Arpaio's stunts, and at a time when there were 12 unsolved execution-style murders in the county, he staged a massive prostitution round-up publicity stunt. This two month "sting operation" involved over 350 deputies that were pulled off other investigative details and patrol that resulted in 80 cases that have all been declined for prosecution by the Maricopa County Attorney's Office.

Now I'm all for going after criminals - but cooome on! This guy is no good!
