I found an article on the web describing SSIS as a way to import the database. My primary concern is not to break anything in my SQL Server 2005. Is this (SSIS) method a safe and efficient method of importing Access into SQL Server? Or would you recommend another approach?

You won't break anything in SQL Server (this ain't VFP anymore) with a SSIS import. Just make sure you import to a new database so you can look at your data once it is imported and verify you got what you think you were getting before putting it in a production database!
I recommend SSIS highly!
