That's the part I'm still worried too. But maybe there is to much superfluous gadget on this car.
As you can read between the lines the brake will work on software first (IOW it reads the accelerator too, decides that acc and decc means acc (@.@) ). Only if you push the brake to the bottom it will engage a hardware operated brake.
Very high probability the shift is an input to the comp only.
Would you trust software?

Ok the brake seems to work. I still don't understand why he didnt go neutral (the was no answer in the call) or why he power off the firsthand (If he had done at 50)
