Spent a day with college kids in the US last week. Every one of them already had or intended to upgrade to an iPhone, though some planned to wait until May when the new version is expected with a better camera, higher resolution and possibly a pressure-sensitive back.

Their reason? The gravity sensor, the 3G and the apps... but in the end, because everybody that matters to them already has one. I did quiz them about other options (like Windows and dual-sim options) and learned that Windows is for grey-hairs and that the real battle is between Apple and the Google Empire. Some of these kids had near-new motorola/nokias and even a few Androids, but still wanted to change. Seems Apple is doing something right and that the high cost itself may represent some sort of badge of honor, just like a Cartier watch I guess.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
