While the methodology of that report has drawn criticism, Apple did say in January that over 3 billion apps had been downloaded from iStore in the last 18 months, including 1 billion between September and December. Reported Android and Windows downloads are a small fraction of that. Apple also reports 10 billion iTunes sales by February 2010, making iTunes the largest music retailer in the US by far. Admittedly some of that will be for iPod Touch rather than iPhone, but you can't easily dismiss a vendor or product if it dominates apps and music sales across the entire retail sector.

I agree with MB who wondered whether people have actually used the iPhone. It's a very nice device. OK, screen resolution is looking ordinary compared to newer phones as is the camera, but with a new version just around the corner, I don't think its dominance is about to collapse and developers have every incentive to aim for a small % of the billions of sales that are happening in iStore and nowhere else. It's going to take a *really* big value shift to dislodge that. The value shift is more likely to be something like the latest social gaming on Facebook rather than a particular phone platform IMHO.
