>>>Has anyone used SQL Anywhere before? My organization has to upgrade to a client/server architecture because the software company that makes our accounting package is headed in that direction. We really don't want to change from Novell and I was wondering if anyone could tell me the pros/cons of using this product.

>>It sports the best ANSI SQL syntax on the market place. Check the SELECT command grammar... it is an incredible query tool! You can cope with heavily complex requests. Just build a string in VFP and SQLEXEC it on the server. You will get a return as a vfp cursor... a dream if you need to build an interactive query tool.

>>Apart from a very few odbc bugs (you will find way around) the product can be used easily from VFP despite it is real high end c/s technology.

>>Make sure to use the 5.0 or 5.5 version and avoid the very recent 6.0 which is clearly not stable enough and difficult to use from vfp and other odbc based tools (odbc bugs).

>>Good luck. Do not hesitate to call if you have any question. I like the product and should be pleased to share experience if needed.

>How does SQL Anywhere handle replication? We have 4 remote sites where we are thinking of replicating the database to each one. Does SQL Anywhere have any problems deaI
>Thanks,

Anywhere sports its own smart replication technplogy both synchronous and async. It is call SQL remote. I have not tested it but it has been there for quite a few years. Possibly what you are looking for.

Check the news server dedicated to anywhere replication at sybase.com.

If you successfully implement replication with Anywhere, i'd be glad to know. Replication is always a bit tricky. I d be glad to hear to about real-world
implementation.
