If the data is on the same PC as the app, at least you've done away with the network issues. But in the end everything on the hard drive still is a file that can be corrupted. C/S databases are more robust only because on restart they can identify and roll back incomplete transactions... as long as the log itself is not corrupt, and as long as system tables are not corrupt. System corruptions in particular can require detailed effort to restore use of a C/S database, which is why some practitioners greet that with a "restore from backup" instruction. However, as long as you cover the PC with a UPS, those events should be rare as has been reported by William Kuhn here before.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
"
-- Shakespeare: Coriolanus, Act 1, scene 1
