Why not the best of both worlds? I am with Craig that it's unintuitive that a search will be done automatically once you have tabbed through each field. (Who said I'm really ready to search? -- maybe I want to go back and change a search term). I am with you in not liking extra steps. What if hitting Enter after all search fields have been navigated triggers the search button's click event?
