>>>Why do so many musicians die young? 62 seems to be a good age for them. Why, recently Kate McGarrigle (of Kate & Anna McGarrigle, ex of L Wainright III, mother of Rufus and Martha W) died at 63. One of my main loves in music, she was.

>>Damn. I hadn't heard that.

>>Loudon is hanging in there and he has to be over 62. Not to mention all the Brit rockers who are still touring, LOL.

>Esp the Stones. Mind you, they were pickled years ago.

One of the pleasures of my life was seeing the Stones at the L.A Coliseum in 1981. They were not yet past it. A college roommate and I both started our careers in LA and went to the show with two young ladies whose names I can't even remember. We muscled a path to 50 feet in front of the stage. It was so-called stadium seating, meaning the only reserved seats were in the grandstands. We held our ground and were still there when the Stones finally came on stage at sunset. Mick! Keef! The guy you couldn't take your eyes off was Keith Richards. Impossibly cool. He was mostly toward the back of the stage, sending out the power chords of a generation, a cigarette hanging nonchalantly out of his mouth. Huge black biker boots. That was pretty cool, watching Keith Richards at work from 50 feet away.
