A heads up on Samba. I've used it for years for small networks running various Clipper, dBase, and VFP apps, and found that, albeit very infrequently, there would be oddball problems with data corruption, bad indices, etc. Usually just a small bit of inexplicable data corruption that would take valuable time to fix. When I switched some of the customers over to Windows Server these little issues simply disappeared. So, I got used to specifying Windows Server and they got used to paying for it.

I love Samba, Linux and all that stuff (after all I am a bit of a geek and sometimes a cheap one at that) but I also love peace of mind.
