>>Everyone gets health care. And everyone pays for it. I don't see it as a takeover.
>What if I don't want health care? What if I'm young, healthy and don't feel it's worth the expense? That's what's lost. Freedom of choice. Including the right to choose risky behavior based upon my own values and risk-reward calculations.
Then, not only are you incredibly selfish, but also incredibly stupid. You could be healthy as a fish (dutch saying) today, but in severe condition tomorrow.
Lets say you get an serious accident.
* Who is paying for the emergency care?
* Who is paying for surgery and recovery?
Lets not even talk about getting chronically ill. In the current situation, when you discover you're ill, its too late, no insurance will accept you.
You'd be incredibly stupid to bankrupt yourself and your family, and additionally burdening your recovery because you cannot pay for the needed health care.
I think any government should protect anyone idiot to make such a risky and stupid mistake. I'd consider this gambling.
